Film festival rolls out the green carpet

Projects | December 1, 2009 | By:

Glitz and glamour took the stage on opening night of the 22nd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in October, where the traditional celebrity red-carpet entrance took place on a green carpet. Teijin Group, a Tokyo, Japan, manufacturer of synthetic fibers, films and plastics, created the more than 5,200-foot ECOPET® recycled polyester fiber carpet from an estimated 23,000 plastic bottles.

The TIFF embraced a green identity for the event by purchasing wind, solar and biomass power and providing festival guests with eco-bags, ties, handkerchiefs and green ribbons made from Teijin’s ECO CIRCLE™ recycled polyester. Tom Yoda, chairman of the TIFF, introduced the concept of a Green Carpet Club focused on implementing environmental improvements at such stellar events earlier in the year, at a champagne party at the Cannes Film Festival.
