Spray-on UV protection

The Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia, will introduce a new product within the year—the NanoZT Coating Kit, a spray-on coating that transforms umbrellas, canopies and fabrics into UV radiation blockers. The product inventor, Dr. Shahrom Mahmud from the NanoOptoelectronic Research and Technology Lab, tested the product according to the international AATC standard; UV transmission was 0.3 percent. For comparison, UV protection of 50+ refers to transmission of 2.0 percent. The coating is waterproof, usable on all polymer-based and textile products (except cotton), and lasts for more than a year, according to Mahmud. Click here to find out more.
