Comparing 10-mil vinyl and10-ounce vinyl

We need to compare two materials. Is a 10-mil vinyl the same as a 10-ounce vinyl?

It’s hard to tell from the information you’ve given us, but we’re guessing that they’re not the same. “Mil” is a measurement of thickness (a mil is 1/1000th of an inch) and “ounce,” of course, is a measurement of weight. We’re more familiar with mil being used in reference to vinyl films, especially an unsupported material, and ounce being used for a coated or laminated fabric. Even that, however, is not something you can safely assume is true in your case. Two 10-ounce coated vinyl fabrics won’t necessarily have the same thickness, depending on how much of that weight comes from the coating and how much is from the substrate. It would be a good idea to gather additional information to do your comparison, such as results from test methods for tensile strength, etc., or even obtaining fabric samples.
