Get your leopard print lounge chair and gold-glittered vinyl seating to strike a pose; it’s time to enter the 2011 Upholstery Awards. We welcome your upholstery entries into what was formerly the Upholstery Journal Design & Craftsmanship Awards and now is a part of the International Achievement Awards (IAA) competition.
You’ve not heard of IAA? Well then, let us explain. IAA is an awards competition that recognizes specialty-fabric design excellence. Since 1947, designers and specialty fabric companies have been competing with their best work. Winners are selected based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function. The “Award of Excellence” and “Outstanding Achievement Award” winners are announced every year at IFAI Expo Americas.
Upholsterers and upholstery designers qualify for this competition and may enter in the following categories: Auto & Transportation Upholstery, Residential Upholstery, Commercial Upholstery, and Marine Upholstery.
Last year IAA had one upholstery category and the winner did a phenomenal job-transforming a couch found on the side of the road into lovely tufted green velvet. See this winning project and more in the online winner’s portfolio: https://secure.ifai.com/iaa/.
Besides the online exposure, what else do winners get? Winners will be featured on the Upholstery Journal website, plus IFAI sends a press release to the industry trade press. You will also receive an award to display on the wall of your upholstery business, and an award logo for your company website, email tag and/or business card.
When is the deadline? Enter by July 15, 2011.
How do you enter? Enter online at https://secure.ifai.com/iaasubmit. Entrants need jpeg images (at least 1 mg) and a description of the project, which includes the purpose of the project, what the client requested, and what is unique about it.
IFAI members receive four free entries to the competition after paying the $50 registration fee. Non-members pay $35.00 per entry, plus a $50 registration fee. To become a member, email membership@ifai.com, or call +1 800 225 4324.
