Efficient sandbagging

Projects | April 1, 2011 | By:

[HESCO] Dubai, U.A.E.

HESCO barriers, labor-saving—and lifesaving—products developed for use on beaches and marches for erosion and flood control, are also used by the military. The collapsible, wire-mesh container with a heavy-duty polypropylene geotextile liner can be filled with sand, dirt or gravel using a front-end loader to create a barrier to protect soldiers and equipment from attack. The barriers are also used at check points or border points, for aircraft revetments, and for ammunition and fuel storage bunding. It has again found its calling in flood control, replacing traditional sandbagging along rivers prone to spring flooding. Sandbagging is more labor intensive, slower to deploy and more expensive than HESCO barriers.
