What is a ‘rexine’ fabric?

A rexine is an artificial leather material. Originally, Rexine was the registered trade name of a particular brand of artificial leather fabric that originated in Europe. In the same way that some brand names come to refer to a general product category (think Xerox for copy machines and Kleenex for facial tissue), in some parts of the world, Rexine came to be the general term used to refer to artificial leather.
