Fabric light diffusers play ball

Within the new Dallas Cowboys stadium complex in Arlington, Texas, are two identical VIP lounges that sport two types of large, sculptured lighting elements using fabric from Fisher Textiles as the light diffuser. In the first type, three different sizes of football-shaped fabric structures enclose fluorescent fixtures mounted on either side of a longitudinal channel of stainless steel. In the second, numerous square and curved panels are suspended below ceiling-mounted halogen fixtures in an overlapping pattern to create a dramatic glowing canopy. Because the panels are suspended in different planes, light and shadows interact and appear to move as the viewer moves around the room. The end result helped to satisfy the team owner’s wish that the stadium be a home for art and architecture second to none. In addition, they effectively light the space and meet the practical needs of durability and serviceability.
