The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) has published its State of Trade report for the third quarter of 2011, and production of yarn and fabrics increased over the previous quarter. Global yarn production increased because of higher output in Asia (particularly in China) and South America, despite lower yarn production in Europe and North America. While global fabric production rose in the third quarter, it didn’t compare with third quarter production in 2010. All regions suffered declines in fabric production from 2010 to 2011, except for South America, which has more fabric stock on hand. The estimates for yarn and fabric production in the fourth quarter of 2011 are mixed in most countries, with only producers in Asia expecting increases over the third quarter results.
