William (Bill) Phythian, president (1989-1991) and long-time board member of the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI), died peacefully on December 28, 2013, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, at the age of 82. Phythian joined the Calgary Police Service in 1955, but left law enforcement in 1957 to work at Calgary Tent and Awning Ltd., where he spent the rest of his career. He and Les Thorne co-owned the company from 1968-1987, and Phythian assumed sole ownership at Thorne’s retirement. Phythian retired and sold Calgary Tent in 1999.
