Preventing healthcare-associated infections with single-use nonwovens.

Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) affect more than four million patients and are directly responsible for 37,000 deaths in Europe every year. EDANA, the international association for nonwovens and related industries, emphasizes the impacts of HAI on people and pocketbooks. HAI cost physicians and hospitals an estimated 5.4 billion Euros per year.

EDANA advocates for single-use disposable gowns, drapes and other nonwoven products as one solution for the problem of HAI. “Single-use… nonwoven products for operating rooms are an effective barrier protection solution, and are essential to the prevention of infections,” says Abby Bailey, communications and marketing manager for EDANA. The newly-released infographic below shows the impact of HAI and details how nonwovens can help prevent them.
