Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School students and staff are the winners of Rose Brand Inc.’s “Rags to Riches” contest, receiving a new, custom main stage curtain valued at up to $10,000.

The Secaucus, N.J., provider of theatrical fabrics, production supplies and custom stage drapery launched the contest as a fun way to give back to students in the theatre community. Any organization with a stage was invited to send a creative video expressing the need for a new main stage curtain. The winning video describes the Brooklyn, N.Y., high school’s need in playful visuals and lyrics sung to the tune of “My Favorite Things” from the 1965 film “The Sound of Music.”

The school wanted the new curtain to match the shade of red in its existing house curtains, so Rose Brand custom dyed the selected fabric. Michael Cucciarre, senior project manager at Rose Brand, also helped to make adjustments to the valance dimensions, which previously interfered with lighting. The new curtain is made of 25-oz., flame-retardant Prestige fabric with 100 percent box pleats.
