While serving two combat tours in Afghanistan, Sam Russo flew every mission with one special flag. It was particularly meaningful to him and his family because this flag was given to his grandfather when he returned home from World War II.

Russo wanted to provide the same emotional connection to the Red, White and Blue for service members today. He founded RePatriot Flag, a company that makes American flags and sends them to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Russo’s flags honor and protect our country in another way—they are manufactured in the USA using Unifi Inc.’s REPREVE® recycled fiber, made from recycled plastic bottles. The recycled fabric is constructed to meet the exact U.S. government specifications for a standard nylon flag. Unlike flags made of traditional nylon, they contain no foreign oil by-products.

Each flag contains fiber made from ten recycled plastic bottles. To date, RePatriot Flag has eliminated nearly 30,000 plastic bottles from landfills.

Russo’s company also donates a portion of its proceeds to support veteran organizations including Operation Enduring Warrior and Team Red, White and Blue, organizations that provide positive physical and social outlets for veterans to help them cope with the stress and hardships of war.
