Roofed: dramatic tension

An exciting new stadium is rising on the Canadian prairie. Part of the Regina Revitalization Initiative, the new Mosaic Stadium will be home to the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders. Slated to open in the summer of 2017, the multipurpose facility seats 33,000 and can expand to 40,000 in order to hold large events like the Canadian Football League Grey Cup championship game.

To protect people from seasonal humidity, rain and snow in a stadium partially open to the elements, roofing was installed over the grandstand seating. FabriTec Structures LLC, Dallas, Texas, was chosen to design and build the tension fabric roof, and assisted with the design of the steel superstructure. Made of an architectural PTFE fabric membrane, the roofing’s translucent properties allow for maximum daylighting while keeping fans relatively cool by providing optimal shading. The fixed roof covers approximately 130,800 square feet of surface area.

The design of the stadium gives fans a better experience by providing 360-degree access and lowering almost 70 percent of the seats to at or below grade, so fans walk down to their seats instead of up.
