What kind of fluorescent bulbs should I use for an outdoor backlit awning, and where should I get it?

We did a quick survey of awning manufacturers and were cautioned that the fluorescent bulbs you need should be able to withstand outdoor conditions—particularly cold weather. Specifically, you need to look for high-output bulbs, with a low temperature ballast. Regular fluorescent bulbs will work, but we’re told that they are more likely to be affected by moisture, such as fog and high humidity. As for a particular supplier, most mentioned purchasing through their local electrical supply shop, but a few of them have even purchased at their local home improvement stores.
