Lightweight spunmelt fabric reduces noise

Problem: Quieter is better, but it usually means adding bulk and weight to sound-absorbing materials.

Solution: Polymer Group Inc. (PGI) has developed a spunmelt fabric that can be used with foam, insulation, meltblown, high loft or other sound-absorbing materials as the outside facing material for enhancing its noise abatement properties. W600 is a thin, lightweight material shown to reduce noise by 40 percent without adding substantial thickness or bulk. Currently used in ceiling tiles, acoustic blankets in appliances and package trays in cars, there is potential for a variety of uses from subway floors and office walls to marine and airline applications.
