Is a compression product, such as compression hosiery, sleeves or bandages, too tight or just right? The Hohenstein Institute, Bönnigheim, Germany, has inexpensive, speedy tests to assess the effective pressure of medical compression products, as well as travel and sport stockings. The Hohenstein System (HOSY) device allows items to be fastened to 20 opposing paired clamps, then measures the energy required to stretch each test pair. It is suitable for all shapes, sizes and lengths of stocking and doesn’t destroy the item. The tensile tester uses strips of the item to determine elasticity. Visit the Hohenstein Institute Web site, www.hohenstein.de, for more information.
