World’s biggest boat wrap debuted
Specialty Fabrics Review | February 2010
Clay Gaillard, public relations manager for Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, wondered how to attract attention at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to the QuadZeus, a 60-foot convertible power sportfishing boat. He approached marine artist Steve Goione and, later, Image Monster, a Wilmington, Del., large format printer, who came together to install the world’s biggest boat wrap, a compelling vision of blue marlins and mahi-mahi. “It was a sensation; C & M could not be happier—the boat got tremendous exposure,” says Gaillard.
The boat wrap challenged Image Monster; the company had experience with car, van, truck and trailer wraps—but not with power boats zooming through water. The team created a layout, digital template, five-foot model and, finally, printed cast vinyl sheets measuring 54 by 150 inches. It took three installers three days to wrap the boat in water-resistant cast vinyl and apply extra sealer to prevent water damage. The results were worth the effort, says Gaillard.
