When the architects designed the Phoenix Convention Center (Phoenix, Ariz.) expansion project, they wanted to capture the unique geographical features of Arizona with colors, textures and finishes using the warm hues of the Sonoran Desert and the cool tones of an Arizona desert sky. Eventscape Inc. engineered and fabricated 358 individual ceiling panels that were suspended throughout the exhibition and public spaces. The dynamic shapes, similar to a collapsed hypar, create visual interest in an extremely large ceiling area. These framed structures use a custom, fire-rated, flexible polyester membrane covering that allows the unique shape of the elements to be realized. The sheer quantity of the panels required close logistics coordination with the client to ensure a smooth installation process.
