A Lean Manufacturing training program, implemented with the help of an alliance of Pennsylvania educational providers, spurred the staff of Secant Medical™, Perkasie, Penn., to identify process improvements in the manufacture of its custom textile structures for biomedical devices. A $60,000 state grant and several economic development groups supported the training, which produced operational improvements, cost reduction and manufacturing efficiencies. Secant Medical’s clients expect suppliers to implement a Lean Manufacturing system, which will also allow the company to “remain on the cutting edge, retain a highly skilled Pennsylvania labor force, and continue our mission,” says Janet Moisey, general manager of Secant Medical’s Commercial Business Group.
