Curtains help control infection in Wisconsin hospital

Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Waukesha, Wisc., U.S.A., is the first hospital in the U.S. to use Shield™ infection control fabric privacy curtains throughout most of its facility. The hospital was a participant in the “5 Million Lives” campaign, implemented by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a project that included initiatives for care interventions to reduce infections. Hospital officials say the renovation using Shield products has meant significant savings because the curtains are serviceable in place, reducing cleaning and labor time. Developed by Panaz in the U.K., Shield technology uses silane-based molecules that remain permanently fixed to the fabric and destroy microbes on contact.
