Cidelsa created a cover for the indoor courtyard of the District Department of Environment, Bogotá, Colombia, designed to protect vistors and workers from the elements in the common leisure areas. Part of the first green building in Bogotá, the membrane serves an integral role, collecting rainwater that is carried through the two supporting columns into a tank and used in the irrigation of gardens and the building’s green roofs. The client, the mayorship of Bogotá, requested that the perimeter of the space be fully covered. Because it was so irregular, this was a challenge, and it was necessary to maintain natural air circulation and not interfere with rainwater collection.The heights of the fabric roofs promote airflow, allowing heat to escape naturally—the only space within the building that relies solely on physics for air circulation. Precontraint 702 S from Serge Ferrari North America was used for the fabric membrane.
