Low-VOC vinyl compounds used for variety of applications

New formulation technology allows Teknor Apex Co.’s Vinyl Division to manufacture flexible vinyl compounds that reduce emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 80 percent or more compared to conventional formulations, according to the company. These low-VOC versions of the Apex® compounds are intended for use in profiles and molded items, extrusion-coated fabrics and extruded and calendered sheet used in residential and institutional furniture and furnishings, such as wall coverings, window treatments, office partitions, furniture trim and baseboards. The new technology helps manufacturers achieve certification under industry-developed voluntary air-quality standards, and is part of a broader Teknor Apex program to expand options for customers concerned about environmental issues.
