Children in need receive a recycled GIFFT

Members of the Sustainable Furniture Council decided that too many fabric samples ended up in landfills, and initiated the Sample Waste Initiative for Furniture and Textiles (SWIFT) to begin a conversation about how to re-use the waste. Avangard Innovative, Houston, Texas, spearheaded the Green Initiative for Furniture and Textiles (GIFFT) to provide samples, excess end rolls or discontinued fabric to Quilts for Kids, a 50-chapter network of volunteer quilters. Quilts for Kids makes the fabric into quilts, wheelchair bags and totes for children in need. GIFFT kicked off in July, and a ton of fabric waste has been collected and distributed to quilters to date, most of which would have ended up in landfills.
