Representatives from branches of the U.S. military provided new insight into the textile and apparel needs of American forces. With no empty seats in the room, U.S. Air Force Col. Kurt Wilson, Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP) director, clothing and textiles, opened the ‘Forecasts for U.S. Military and Government Textile Needs’ symposium explaining ‘Vision 2011,’ an effort to accomplish complete supply chain visibility.

Quality assurance representatives will be eliminated as responsibility shifts to the primary contractor, based on transparency in the process and trust. “We want you delivering quality product as ordered, he said. “You’re not supposed to be doing the research.”

Wilson emphasized a new, cooperative focus with the ‘Clothing & Textile Life Cycle Management Model,’ which he called a three-legged stool made up of the military service branches, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the manufacturers, and he assured the audience that his department is working on speeding up the bidding and award process, as well.
