The employees of Firestone Textiles Co., Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, produce nylon resins and yarns for tire manufacturers in the U.S.—and they do it without the on-the-job accidents that increase production costs. The company announced that employees had reached one million man hours with no lost time injuries, which are injuries that require recuperation away from work. The employees, a joint health and safety committee, the union and Firestone Textiles supervisors accomplished the injury-free landmark between April 2007 and June 2009. “One of our most important values is for employees to come to work, do the job and go home in exactly the same condition they came to work,” says Ken Weaver, president of Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc.
