Contaminated sediments are among the toughest to manage because any disturbance (digging or dredging) releases pollutants into the water. CETCO Remediation Technologies, Hoffman Estates, Ill., specializes in cleanup technologies and will now offer the Triton® Marine Mattress, a flexible geotextile container that can be installed underwater and filled with native soils or materials. While the weight of the mattress prevents erosion and blocks contamination from moving from disturbed areas to clean water, absorbent media that can trap or even treat the pollutant is integrated into the mattress “stuffing.” Tensar International Corp., Atlanta, Ga., granted CETCO exclusive distribution rights to the mattress, which has been used in a recent pilot project on New York’s Hudson River.
