What is one other management strategy you’ve implemented?

It’s important to conduct employee performance reviews at the same time. If you do them on anniversary dates people get anxious about it in the weeks leading up to the review. They might know that so-and-so got a raise and/or promotion and feel like they need to be sure to get the same. By doing reviews at the same time, it reduces the stress for employees and the plant manager.

By the time you decided to pursue your MBA, you’d been out of school for 11 years and were on your way to becoming president of the company. What made you go back to school?

I started by taking a couple of classes for my own enjoyment and soon saw how the business could benefit from me having my MBA. Having a work history to draw from also helped me make the most of the experience—it was a turning point for the way I run the company.
