bluesign® publicizes standards criteria

Advanced Textiles, Industry News | May 1, 2010 | By:

bluesign technologies ag offers three premium applications: bluetool, bluefinder and blueguide, developed to meet the specific needs of each level along the textile manufacturing chain. The three applications work together to ensure that textiles are manufactured using the least but most environmentally friendly resources available. The bluesign standard is built around five principles: resource productivity, consumer safety, air emission, water emission and occupational health and safety.

The company has now opened to the public the criteria of its standard on its website.

Safety and environmental regulations are in place for many different aspects of textile manufacturing; they are different from country to country, and also change over time. Companies may have to cope not only with Restricted Substances Lists from brand and retailers but also with REACH chemical regulations in Europe and CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) in the United States. The bluesign system analyzes all input streams and rates them based on ecotoxilogical impact before production begins.
