Textile manufacturer Valdese Weavers has partnered with Seaqual Initiative to fight plastic pollution by transforming marine litter into beautiful textiles.
Valdese Weavers, a designer and manufacturer of decorative textiles for use in residential and contract markets, is taking OEKO-TEX® certified upcycled yarn made from the cleaned and processed marine plastics collected by Seaqual and weaving it into fabrics at its facility in Burke County, N.C. According to a press release from Valdese Weavers, residential and contract-grade fabrics are available as well as performance options.
Seaqual Initiative raises awareness about marine litter, working with ocean cleanups around the world to bring value to the waste they recover. Working with waste management and recycling industries, the organization strives to transform marine litter into upcycled marine plastic that can be used to create sustainable products. It has transformed 99 tons of marine litter into upcycled marine plastic and cleaned 600 tons of waste from oceans.
