Antiviral treatment for face masks

Swiss textile innovation company HeiQ mobilized quickly to fight the dire coronavirus threat, introducing HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03, an antiviral and antimicrobial textile technology that is proven to be effective against COVID-19 in face mask testing.

The idea behind the HeiQ technology is to mitigate the risk of infection by deactivating the virus quickly—even within minutes.

In tests, Viroblock’s antiviral properties neutralize COVID-19 within two to five minutes, increasing the protection of standard N95 or FFP2 disposable masks by more than 30 times compared to untreated masks.

It works by combining vesicle and silver technologies that are designed to inhibit the growth and persistence of bacteria and viruses. The technology, which is added to fabric during the final stage of the textile manufacturing process, targets lipid-enveloped viruses such as coronavirus, providing rapid virus deactivation. The silver technology inhibits
the replication of both bacteria and viruses.

HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 provides a self-sanitizing and germ-resistant surface that lasts for at least 30 gentle washes. It can be applied to all fiber types including woven, knit and nonwoven, cellulosic, synthetics and their blends. It’s suitable for a variety of textile surfaces including face masks, medical gowns, curtains and air filters. For information, visit www.heiq.com.
