Germany-based Freudenberg Performance Materials has collaborated with the Nonwoven Institute of North Carolina State University to produce face masks for North Carolina government organizations, UNC system universities and North Carolina hospitals.
Both the organizations will align their expertise and supply chains to bring PPE to healthcare professionals and universities as soon as possible. The production will be started first for N95 face respirators.
While NC State University is providing Freudenberg Performance Materials with raw material needed to produce masks, the latter is applying its textile manufacturing workforce to operate and maintain four newly installed production lines. Once the site becomes fully operational, it will be able to produce more than 1 million face masks per month.
Six additional production lines are also in development by Freudenberg to produce surgical and N95 masks. The entire project has created 50 jobs within Freudenberg.
