
A textile history vacation like no other: Those with enough coin can take a 17-day tour of the Silk Road next fall by private jet, traveling to UNESCO World Heritage sites and cities such as Venice, Italy; Tbilisi, Georgia; and Istanbul, Türkiye.
Textile highlights in Venice include visiting Tessitura Bevilacqua to see complex velvets woven on centuries-old looms and Atelier Nicolao, whose staff creates handcrafted, elaborate historical costumes. In Samarkand, Uzbekistan, travelers will visit a factory dedicated to ancient silk carpet weaving, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage tradition. At the Georgian National Museum, artifacts include household items and textiles dating as far back as the Bronze Age.
The tour also includes a sunset cruise along the Bosphorus on a private yacht, visits to Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, and other historic and UNESCO-designated locations, with exclusive wine tastings, dinners and performances along the route.
