Car enthusiasts are known for their care of their prized vehicles, so when a client came to IMS New Zealand in Onekawa, it was clear his expectations for a protective travel and storage cover for his race car would be high.

“Aesthetically, the cover needed to complement the sleek, elegant look of the vehicle,” says Milos Vukovic, the company’s canvas fabrication specialist/manager. The customer wanted a lightweight, waterproof “sock-like cover that tightly enveloped the car’s body and not the wheels, while also featuring an opening at the seat area,” say his entry notes for the International Achievement Awards. The latter was accomplished through a removable zippered flap.

The custom cover also needed to be “easy to fold and store,” Vukovic says, “and practical for regular use.”
Due to the complex shape of the vehicle, the cover was challenging to create. But in the end, Vukovic says it was extremely satisfying to see how happy the finished project made the customer, who, he wrote, highlighted the cover’s craftsmanship and attention to detail.

IMS is a family-owned company that started in 2005 supplying its Cloudburst Fire Buckets for aerial firefighting. As demand grew, so did the need for in-house fabrication. The expansion led to a canvas division that handles upholstery, covers, screens, shade sails and awnings.
