Elevate Textiles announced that its finishing plant in Burlington, N.C., will close at the end of the year.
“This closing is a result of changing market dynamics across several businesses and product lines that the plant supports, which are significantly reducing production volumes. Despite efforts to identify new product lines, the identified volumes remain too low to maintain a viable operation,” wrote Kristin Hughes, chief legal officer and human resources officer for Elevate Textiles, in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification to the state Department of Commerce.
Federal law requires companies with more than 100 or more full-time employees to file a notice when closing a plant that will affect at least 50 employees, conducting a mass layoff of at least 500 employees or laying off at least one-third of the employees in a workforce.
The company has notified all affected employees. Bumping rights do not exist.
Elevate Textiles expects to begin the runout of production within the next few weeks and will continue in phases until the plant is completely closed. The majority of production is expected to be completed by Sept. 30. Employee shifts will continue to be scheduled to meet customer demand and assist with the facility’s closure, according to the notice. The plant finished and dyed fabrics for the apparel industry.
Elevate Textiles’ global headquarters is in Charlotte, N.C. The company operates in 100 countries across six continents. Its brands include well-known North Carolina companies such as American & Efird and Burlington Industries, and Cone Denim Güterman and Safety Comp. It has about 5,000 employees.
