Marine Fabricators Conference attendees reviewed submissions for the 2026 Marine Fabricators Association’s (MFA) Fabrication Excellence Awards and voted for their favorite project by first-time attendees and their favorite overall project.
Lavigne’s Canvas Co. Inc. had the distinction of winning both the Rookie of the Year and the Attendee’s Choice awards. The project “Midnight Special” was submitted in the Marine Exterior Upholstery category.
“Our clients came to us with a clear vision to transform their pontoon into the ultimate expression of luxury and style,” says Pat Lavigne, president of Lavigne’s Canvas Co., in the project submission. “Their inspiration was drawn from the refined atmosphere of a cigar lounge, where comfort, sophistication, and rich tones come together seamlessly. To bring this dream to life, we began with a brand-new upholstery set, carefully disassembling it so we could incorporate both our personal flair and the customer’s unique vision. Every element was thoughtfully reimagined from the three captain’s chairs and console to the loungers, benches and a fully customized bar.”
Projects chosen for Rookie of the Year and Attendee’s Choice were not exclusive to those that won an Award of Excellence or an Outstanding Achievement from the Fabrication Excellence Awards—any submitted project was eligible.
“This project stood out as an opportunity to truly showcase our creativity, craftsmanship, and passion for design,” says Lavigne. “Seeing our clients moved to tears upon delivery ‘overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude’ was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. It reaffirmed our dedication to turning imagination into reality through skill, artistry and genuine care.”
