Energy impact of awnings

How do I prove to my customers that having awnings gives savings on energy costs?

In 2007, IFAI’s Professional Awning Manufacturers Association (PAMA) commissioned a study by the University of Minnesota’s Center for Sustainable Building Research (CSBR) on awnings and residential buildings. The study looked at the energy impact of awnings on residences in various parts of the U.S., including the impact of the different directions the windows are faced. The U.S. Department of Energy also has energy-saving tips that include using awnings, and the Environmental Energy Technologies Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has developed a Web-based do-it-yourself energy audit tool that helps calculate potential energy savings. All of these resources are available on the PAMA website.
