Cockpit enclosure offers maximum visibility

A very tall client wanted a redesign of a full center cockpit enclosure on a 46-foot steel ketch to provide maximum height inside for visibility. He also wanted a waterproof fabric for the roof, sturdy framework and easy functioning panels for the front window, entry points to the cockpit and access to the main sheet traveler at the aft. Bennett Custom Canvas designed and built a framework with four bows connected on the outside by a handrail, which provides added safety, stability, strength and tension to the fabric roof. The front window was built in two pieces, allowing the client to easily pull the window up under the roof where it can be fastened to Fastex buckles sewn in to the second frame pocket. A second set of zippers was added to the top of the front window so that a removable bug screen panel can be zipped in while the front window is pulled back. The satisfied client reports that the enclosure has generated a lot of interest everywhere this boat has traveled.
