In memoriam: John Mortensen

John Mortensen, Little Silver, N.J., died on April 20, 2016 at the age of 78. Mortensen was an inventor, thinker, contrarian and an eternal student with insatiable curiosity. He graduated from Philadelphia University, Institute of Textile Technology at University of Virginia and Princeton University and achieved two masters degrees—one in textile engineering and another in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Johnson & Johnson, retired from C.M. Offray as head of the specialty narrow fabrics division and was awarded an honorary lifetime membership in the Industrial Fabrics Association International. Throughout his life, Mortensen created and had 30 patents, was a classic car enthusiast and a licensed pilot.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday April 30, 2016 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave, Red Bank, NJ 07701. The service will be held at 2 p.m. at the same location. The burial will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Mountville United Methodist Church, 303 Mountville Drive, Lebanon, PA.
