SunSetter Products, Malden, Mass., has completed an energy efficiency upgrade in its 64,000-square-foot facility for manufacturing retractable residential awnings. Improvements include energy-efficient lighting and installation of two solar photovoltaic systems on the roof. The solar systems should generate approximately 138,000 kW of energy each year, allowing SunSetter to reduce utility purchases by 35-40 percent, reduce carbon emissions and continue to manufacture awnings offering UV protection to customers. All major components of the solar systems were made by Massachusetts companies.
