The Ohio Chemistry Technology Council recognized OMNOVA Solutions plants in Akron and Fairlawn, Ohio, with two 2009 Awards for Excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Performance. OMNOVA’s Akron Technology Center developed NM®-128, a zinc-free acrylic polymer that reduces impacts on lakes, rivers and streams, as well as PolyFox® wetting solution for high-gloss floor polishes made without telomere-based fluorochemicals (persistent in the environment and harmful to human health and the environment). The Fairlawn Specialty Chemicals team used these developments to create Mor-Shine® G-35 and G-31.5 floor polishes, which qualify under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Design for the Environment program. Formulators using the Mor-Shine recipe can submit an application to EPA for recognition under the program’s rigorous health and environmental standards.
