Ascend Performance Materials LLC, a Houston, Texas, manufacturer of nylon and other manmade fibers for carpet, apparel, tires and agricultural products, will invest $3.25 million to expand its Greenwood, S.C., facility to add capacity and meet market demands. The Greenwood plant produces nylon fiber for airbags, tire cord and military products, and the expansion will bring 32 new jobs over the next three years. Ascend marked its first year in business in June 2010 and was formed after the private equity firm SK Capital Partners II LP acquired its nylon business from St. Louis-based Solutia Inc.
