Clear vinyl that meets FAR25-853

Resources | June 1, 2011 | By:

I need clear vinyl, 20-40 mil, that meets the flammability requirement FAR25-853. I’m not familiar with that spec; where can I get material that passes it?

We’re used to seeing clear vinyl being used in marine and tent windows and were confused at first as to why FAR25-853 would be a requirement, since it’s a flammability specification for materials used in aircraft cushions. Once we discovered that a bag was being made that would hold personal flotation devices that are stored under the seat of an airplane, it made sense! We found several suppliers that could supply clear vinyl in the gauge you need that meet FAR25-853 requirements, but they would probably need enough lead time for a special order.
