Nike Inc. has launched a new running shoe that uses state-of-the-art integral knitting techniques to create a one-piece fabric upper that is virtually seamless. The Nike Flyknit upper is engineered for precision fit and aims to create the feeling of a second skin for runners. The whole shoe weighs just 5.6 ounces for a size nine. Nike has also created an everyday running shoe weighing 7.7 ounces, the Nike Flyknit Trainer+, bringing the new technology’s benefits to runners of all levels. It has an additional sustainability benefit due to little waste byproduct in the manufacturing process. The world’s top runners are expected to be wearing the Flyknit in upcoming marathons. The shoes will be available to all runners in July.
