Cooley raises the roof on building technology

A partnership consisting of 35 companies is donating $2.7 million in advanced building energy technologies and services for a new “living laboratory” of sustainable design, the Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) Building Technology Showcase. The technologies will be installed during the “deep energy retrofit” and renovation of the historic 5 Channel Center in Boston’s Innovation District. The Cooley Group, Pawtucket, R.I., designs and manufactures sustainable fabrics and contributed its proprietary energy-efficient C3® roofing product to the project. “Sustainable solutions are the future,” says Dan Dwight, Cooley Group president and CEO.

Cooley’s C3 is inherently fire retardant, chemically resistant and prohibits microbial growth, with wick-resistant industrial-strength polyester scrim and a patented aramid reinforced edge. It’s also 100 percent recyclable into new Cooley C3 roofing products.

CSE will evaluate the reliability and effectiveness of the technologies incorporated into the 100-year-old building, providing the donating partners an opportunity to publicly demonstrate the different products’ sustainable advantages.
