The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 1 office recently honored the OMNOVA Solutions Fitchburg, Mass., specialty chemical facility with an Environmental Merit Award. The Fitchburg facility reduced its consumption of natural gas, electricity and water by one-third in five years, while also reducing its own emissions. The plant also donated more than $27,000 annually to local education, health and civic organizations in Fitchburg. OMNOVA Solutions participates in Responsible Care™, an initiative of the American Chemistry Council that promotes health, safety and security for facilities involved in the development, manufacture, transportation and disposal of chemicals. “As a Responsible Care company, it is our responsibility to enhance the sustainability of our processes, products and communities,” says Dan Flint, director of Operations for OMNOVA’s Performance Chemicals Division.
