Wagner Architectural Systems, Milwaukee, Wisc., has announced the addition of a new component for its illuminated Lumenrail® lighted handrail product group: the Klik System’s LEDPOD. Wagner will be the sole distributor for this product in North America.

LEDPOD is an individual LED lighting fixture designed to snap into a 1-1/2 inch to 2-3/8 inch round handrail or guard top rail section, with no threading required. The LEDPOD illuminates in either an asymmetric or symmetrical distribution without the need to tilt the handrail, eliminating unwanted glare. A key advantage of the Klik LEDPOD is its suitability for use in curved railings. The product won the Australian Luminaire Design Award for Excellence 2011.

Klik Systems is an Australian company that has been supplying custom linear lights to architects and designers for more than 25 years. Their LEDs for ‘Luminous’ at Darling Quarter Sydney—billed as the world’s largest digital art façade covering 557 windows—grabbed headlines around the world earlier this year. Based outside Sydney in Eastern Creek, Klik Systems was also involved with SPARC lighting design, part of the VIVID Sydney 2012 festival.

“It was important to us to have the luminaire located out of view under the handrail, effectively lighting the stairs/walkway with good vertical illumination, whilst minimizing glare,” says Cliff Hadley, marketing director at Klik Systems. “LEDPOD is particularly useful where no overhead lighting is possible.”

“Partnering Klik’s vast lighting experience with Wagner’s metals capabilities provides unparalleled advantage to ornamental metals designers and users as well as an exceptional platform for creative lighting design,” said Patrick Hutchinson, director of Wagner Architectural Systems. “Together we have very high expectations for a bright future.”

The LEDPOD fixture fits flush into handrails of any size, and has a sleek contemporary aesthetic. The LED’s asymmetrical optical system (patent pending) was designed using Photopia software and completely eliminates glare. A specially designed heat sink solved the problem of heat on the glass lens and handrail; the heat does not exceed 35 degrees.

Lumenrail is Wagner’s system of LED components and metal for the assembly of lighted railing systems. In addition the Klik LEDPOD, Wagner also offers LED Light Sticks and BantamT LED lights for straight runs of railing and post mount, respectively. Wagner LED fixtures are fully dimmable when used in conjunction with listed, aftermarket DC voltage controllers.
