Textile technology books covers multiple industry aspects

Woodhead Publishing, based in Cambridge, England, publishes textile technology books for an international audience. The company recently published three books that focus on different aspects of the industry.

> The Global Textile and Clothing Industry: Technological Advances and Future Challenges, edited by Professor Rashan Shishoo, former director of the Swedish Institute for Polymers and Fibers and Honorary Fellow of the Textile Institute, reviews global changes affecting the textile sector. The book covers trends, environmental regulations, technology breakthroughs, mass production of composite fibers, how textile sciences are being taught, 3-D body scanning for garment design and other topics.

> Smart Textiles for Protection, edited by Roger Chapman, former research and development manager at Texon, describes materials and structures that sense and react to environmental conditions. The integration of smart textiles into protective clothing has increased user safety. Chapman describes smart materials and technologies and examines specific applications for smart textiles in protective gear. One chapter reviews recent advances in chemical and biological protective clothing.

> Woven Textiles: Principles, Developments and Applications, edited by Dr. Kim Gandhi, a fellow of The Textile Institute, the Royal Society of Arts and the Textile Association of India, provides an essential overview of the manufacture and applications for woven textiles in technical applications. The book covers fundamentals of weaving technology, computer-assisted design for modeling 3-D woven structures and applications from automotive interiors to medical devices.
