UL has announced the move of its Enfield, Ct.-based consumer products testing laboratory to a new, state-of-the-art 48,000 sq. ft. facility in Enfield, more than doubling its capacity and capabilities for quality and safety assurance testing. The relocation will enable UL to more efficiently meet the growing demand for the company’s analytical, physical, performance and compliance testing of consumer products for retailers and manufacturers doing business in the U.S.
The new facility houses advanced instrumentation and equipment for the testing of consumer hard goods inclusive of toys, small appliances, electrical equipment, and general merchandise, and soft goods inclusive of apparel, and fabrics and textiles. Additional laboratory capabilities allow UL to offer quality and safety assurance testing services in the U.S. for jewelry, playground equipment, and juvenile products.
UL’s consumer products group provides a full range of global verification services including: product compliance testing to international, federal and regional regulations; product evaluations for safety risk assessment, performance, and design consistency; factory capabilities and cGMP audits; quality inspections; social compliance and fair labor monitoring programs; and customized quality assurance solutions to meet the special needs of any company.
“Our new Connecticut laboratory can now offer a greater volume of testing, more efficiently and across more product lines, while coordinating activities for U.S.-based customers using global UL consumer products labs for their testing needs. We have precision laboratories positioned in key producing countries to service our customers with the highest integrity and through worldwide collaboration,” said Roy Lamothe, vice president and general manager-consumer products, North America.
