Mountain outerwear certifiably “green”

Industry News, Products | May 1, 2013 | By:

An outdoor apparel manufacturer located in Grenoble, France, Lafuma has introduced its new Eco Life Parka line, demonstrating its commitment to nature by using Newlife™ yarns made 100 percent from post-consumer bottles converted by mechanical, not chemical, processes. Newlife polyester, produced by Saluzzo Yarns S.r.l., Saluzzo, Italy, is certified in accordance with Global Recycling Standards, Oeko-tex®, Plastica Seconda Vita and the Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification (ICEA) using lifecycle assessment, making Newlife fabrics fully traceable, high performing and sustainable.

Eco Life Parkas offer modern urban styling with weather protection, thermal comfort and moisture management (using Lafuma’s Climactive® Eco Canvas membrane lining stitched via ultrasound to the Newlife fabric), complete recyclability and a very small environmental footprint. According to the ICEA, the production of Newlife uses 94 percent less water, requires 60 percent less energy and emits 32 percent less CO2 than production of virgin polyester.
