The Cloud on Auckland’s Queens Wharf in New Zealand was a central showcase of creativity and innovation at the Rugby World Cup 2011. A collaboration of architect, engineer and Fabric Structure Systems, it fit the need for a fan/VIP/media gathering space of international standing. The 11-meter-high and 178.5-meter-long sculptural shape was the result of extensive modeling and form finding. Covered by eight roof panels and 46 side panels, the naturally ventilated interior gets its cloud-like form and sense of depth from a 502 PVD ceiling liner installed to conceal trusses and structural steel.
